Concertina coils are typically made of hot-dipped galvanized high-tensile steel and are available in various coil diameters and blade types to suit different security needs. Key specifications include coil diameter, blade dimensions, material composition, and core wire thickness.
Common Specifications
Material:
Core Wire: High-tensile spring steel (high carbon wire) is commonly used, often conforming to standards like IS 4454. The diameter is typically around 2.5 mm or 2.6 mm.
Razor Tape/Blade: Galvanized steel strip is standard, with stainless steel (Grades 304, 316) also available for enhanced corrosion resistance, especially in coastal or wet environments.
Clips: Heavy-duty "J" clips, made from galvanized steel or stainless steel, are used to hold the spirals together.
Dimensions:
Coil Diameter (before stretching): Common diameters include 450 mm (18"), 600 mm (24"), 750 mm, 900 mm, and 1050 mm.
Blade Thickness: Typically ranges from 0.4 mm to 0.6 mm.
Stretched Length per Coil: Varies depending on the diameter and installation method, but a common length is around 6 to 15 meters.
Performance and Finish:
Tensile Strength: The core wire typically has a high tensile strength, often around 1670 N/mm².
Surface Treatment: Hot-dip galvanization is the most common treatment, offering durability and resistance to rust and corrosion. A heavy zinc coating of at least 230 GSM (grams per square meter) is a standard specification.
Blade Types: Common blade profiles have reference numbers
